Mass of Christian Burial for Allen (Spider) Marshall age 71 of Pierre will be held on Wednesday November 14 at 10:00 am at All Saints Catholic hurch in Eagle Butte, SD. A Rosary service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Church and visitation will begin at 6:00 PM at the Church. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery at Promise SD under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Allen (Spider) Leroy Marshall was born October 11, 1947 at Cheyenne Agency, the 7th child of 13 children born to Irving and Ruby G. Marshall.
Allen was married to Ruth Anne Pridemore in 1978 in Davenport, Iowa. Allen took pride in any job he held. He was employed at the Cheyenne Eagle Butte Dormitories from 1973 to 1980. In 1980 he moved to Pierre SD. In 1982 he was employed as a custodial worker with the Bureau of Administration at the Capitol. He became Building Manager in March of 1999. He was on a first name basis with Governor George Mickelson whom he considered his good friend. He knew every corner of the capitol building and was happy to give a tour or share his knowledge with anyone who asked. His strong work ethic was rewarded and recognized by Governor Daugaard who signed a proclamation when he retired in 2011 and declared that September 23rd was Allen "Spider" Marshall Day.
Allen enjoyed turnip digging, hunting and fishing, and he loved sitting outside watching the sunrise while listening to old country music with his pug dogs who he considered his four legged children. He also enjoyed going to the casino's and eating out with his Love, Ruth Ann. He enjoyed visiting with friends who often stopped by to see him especially Jan Ostercamp. After retirement Allen spent time helping his friends Darcy and Ed Eisenbraun with their business. He recently became a resident at the Miller Nursing Home for the past six months.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Pridemore, his siblings, Sandra Ward, Frances Gray, Hap (Hilda) Marshall, Gib (Julie) Marshall, Tom (June) Marshall, Tony Marshall (Carol), Mary Marshall (Shannon), Nita (Ron) Pearman and Tudee (Gary) Rousseau. Numerous Nieces and Nephews, special cousin-Mona Rae Lawrence, family and friends,
He is preceded in death by his parents Irving and Ruby G. Marshall, his brother Beaux Marshall, sisters Opal Heisler and Caroline Marshall. Several nieces and nephews.
