Funeral services Alby Twete age 92 of Selby will be at 1:30 PM, Friday, October 11, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Selby. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Alby passed away, Sunday October 6, 2013 at the Dougherty House in Sioux Falls.
Alby Viola Twete was born on August 15, 1921 to Clarence and Ellen (Pearson) Nater in New Effington, South Dakota. She attended Sisseton High School graduating in 1939. Following high school Alby helped out on the farm, and on August 13, 1941 she married Allie Twete. She traveled with her husband while he was in the service to Louisiana and Kentucky. After WWII Allie was honorable discharged. They then farmed in Campbell County until 1953 when they moved to the farm NE of Selby. They retired in 1981 and moved into Selby where she since has resided.
Alby was a member of Norway Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran Church, and St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday School superintendent and teacher at Bethany Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed card parties, quilting and embroidering. She also volunteered at the nursing home, bringing goodies to the residents. She enjoyed walking, helping on the farm, gardening and canning vegetables.
Alby is survived by one sons; Robert (Betty) Twete of Dawson, MN, 2 daughters; Karen Crawford, of Mesa, AZ and Rose Twete of Overland Park, Kansas. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers; Ernest and Laurence Nater, and one grandson Derek Twete.
