Obituary

Funeral services for Albertus Ford, age 83, of Mobridge will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Cornerstone Community Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at 3 PM MT, Thursday at Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 3 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7 PM. Albertus passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Albertus Roy Ford was born on November 22, 1929 on the family farm south of Herreid to Eugene and Emma (Rische) Ford. He grew up on the farm helping his dad. Albertus married Eileen Mayer on September 9, 1951 in Selby. He entered into the US Army on October 18, 1951. He served his country in the Korean Conflict in the Army 3rd Armed Division and was Honorably Discharged on October 17, 1953. He also spent six years in the US Army Reserves upon his return. Following his return Albertus and Eileen farmed south of Herreid until 1957 when they moved to Mobridge. He worked 8 years for Coca Cola before beginning a 22 year career with the Postal Service. After the postal service he worked for West Side Meats for a number of years. He was always busy doing carpentry jobs and also did lawn care at the Mobridge Family Practice Clinic for years.

Albertus enjoyed working with wood, whether it was tearing apart pallets, building things or crafts. He also enjoyed his family vacations that they would go on every summer and visiting his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granddaughter. He collected antiques, coins and stamps. He was an avid Coca Cola drinker and collector. He loved watching the Minnesota Twins play. He was a member of the VFW and served on the board at the Mobridge Senior Citizens Center. He also has had several outdoor cats over the years the last one was named "the Boss". He was a Sunday School teacher and served as a Trustee and Ordained Deacon for the church that he loved the Cornerstone Community Church. He had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and loved to share with everyone.

Albertus is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eileen of Mobridge, nine children, Mavis (Vern) Fritz of Mobridge, Nancy (Eugene) Brockel of Mobridge, Steven (Cindy) Ford of Miller, SD, Bobbie (Dwight) Baumann of Mobridge, Lori (Dean) Carmichael of Thompson Falls, MT, Todd (Lesley) Ford of Chandler, AZ, Stephanie (Steven) Tolkinen of Cottage Grove, MN, Kristi (Jayde) Schott of Aberdeen, SD, and Theodore Ford of Mobridge, grandchildren, Dawn (Eric) Van Dusen, Jeannine Heil, Brad Brockel, Brett Brockel, Shon (Jessie) Ford, Nathan (Val) Ford, Elias (Angie) Ford, Jordan Baumann, Jessica Baumann, Jennifer Carmichael, Truett (Jennie) Carmichael, Caleb Carmichael, Marcie (Ryan) Miller, MacKenzie Ford, Mason Ford, John Tolkinen, Erin Tolkinen, Ryan Tolkinen, Bailey Schott, Lauren Schott, Landon Schott and Jonah Ford, 13 great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, two brothers, Milton (Alice) Ford of Aberdeen and Lester (Clara) Ford of Dixon, IA, sister, Lavina Iverson, Ellendale, ND, sisters-in-law, Ida Ford of Watertown, Delila (Mike) Bezenek of Mobridge, and Deb (Randy) Smith of Sioux Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Emma Ford, parents-in-law, Ted and Dorothy Mayer, brother, Erwin (Verna) Ford and Orville Ford, sister, Elvera (Elmer) Seibel, brother-in-law, Lawrence Iverson and a grandson, Logan Schott.
