Alberta Mae Two Bears-Condon passed on from this earthy realm and journeyed to the Spirit World on December 20 th , 2019. She was 81 years old when she slipped away, surrounded by loved ones at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.
Alberta was born to Albert Two Bears and Laura White Eagle on June 6 th , 1938 in Fort Yates, ND. Her early childhood years were spent in the countryside of Cannonball, ND surrounded by the prairie and lots of animals. She was the oldest of 8 children and often joked about being the last to take a bath after all the dirty little ones. Born to young parents she was primarily raised by her grandparents Richard and Margaret White Eagle. Being the oldest comes with great responsibility and she was always concerned about the wellbeing of her younger siblings. As a teenager her father was tragically killed in an automobile accident, so she helped her mother raise the little ones to the best of her abilities. She was a pillar of strength for her brothers and sisters, always concerned and looking after them, doing what she could to help.
Her best memories are of Cannonball with family and friends riding horse over the countryside. Horsemanship was her passion. We often heard legendary stories of Alberta and Irene racing horses as we grew up. She often talked about jumping on and off horses as they were running because every second counts during those rowdy races. Ranger was her favorite horse and no doubt he was waiting for her in Heaven, waiting to be ridden again like the good horse she remembered him to be.
Many a Friday nights there would be thunder and chaos in the bowling alley in Mandan ND. Bowling was a release for her when she could no longer ride horse. For years she bowled in league play and tournaments around the Great Plains. You could always find the "Sweethearts of Bowling" riding together. Alberta, Dorothy Condon, and Sonja Keener. The three of them were inseparable and Alberta missed them dearly these last years. No doubt they are making thunder again in Heavens Bowling Lanes.
Her later years were spent perusing the floor of Prairie Knights Casino visiting friends and family. Some might say she enjoyed the casino a bit too much, but she would play and visit to her hearts content. Sometimes her body would tell her to go home, but her heart would tell her the next jackpot was one pull away. PKC will never be the same without "Bertie" cruising the floor looking for her favorite machines.
Alberta graduated high school from Marty, SD in 1956. Her secondary education was from Bismarck Junior College and she received an Accredited Record Technician degree. Her career took her to various places throughout the country: Fort Yates ND, Dallas TX, Phoenix AZ Rosebud SD, and Rapid City SD. She retired from Indian Health Service at Fort Yates as the Medical Records Department Supervisor in 1995. Ever the busy body, she worked after retirement for the SRST Child Protection Services from 1995-2007.
Alberta came from a large family and produced a large family.
