Graveside services for Albert Maier, age 96, of McLaughlin will be 1PM, MT Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Congregational Cemetery in McLaughlin under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #121 of McLaughlin. Albert passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.

Albert B. Maier was born June 24, 1915 in Linton, ND to Henry and Emma (Luther) Maier. He graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1937. Albert served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific.

Albert married Audrey Plunkett on February 26, 1953 in McLaughlin, SD. They made their home in McLaughlin where they raised their family of five children. Albert and his brother Leo built the Mac Theater in 1947 and operated it up until 1982. He also owned a liquor store for several years in Aberdeen, SD, and then worked with his son Wayne and daughter-n-law Mary at the Jo Dee in McLaughlin until 1992.

Albert had a great love of music and enjoyed playing his accordion with his son. He loved all animals but had a special fondness for cats, much to the consternation of this wife. He had an inquisitvie mind: he read the dictionary for new words to quiz his children and did word and math puzzles for pleasure. He had a notorious sweet tooth and couldn't be without his ice-cream and peanut m&ms.

Those left to cherish his memory are children Lesley (Ray) Szczepaniak of Clarksville, TN, Glenda (Craig) Redding of Sioux Falls, SD, Wayne (Mary) Maier of McLaughlin, SD, and Donna (Jack) Sine of Aurora, NE. Grandchildren; Zachary (Carrie), Alex, and Max Szczepaniak, Jacob and Eli Redding, Nathan, Justin and Heather Maier, Jordan, Daniel, Victoria, Zoey, Isaac and Owen Sine, great grandchildren Dorian and Phoenix, and foster grandchildren; Christie, Renee, John, and Autumn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Audrey, two brothers, and one daughter Lynnette.
