Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Al Aberle, 93, of Promise will be at 10:30 AM, MT, Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Burial will be at St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Promise under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. There will be a prayer service Friday at 7 PM MT at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Al passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Edgewood Healthcare in Pierre.

Aloys Anton Aberle was born on September 17, 1932, to Andrew and Francis (Bollinger) Aberle at Landeau, SD. He attended grade school in Trail City and graduated from Mobridge High School in 1951.

He spent two years in the 3rd Army unit in Georgia from 1953 to 1955. A lifelong rancher he also worked as a sheep shearer and finished working in the late 70's for Milwaukee Railroad as a fireman. Al met Janice Ducheneaux in front of the Rexall Drug Store in Mobridge, SD in the fall of 1957 – just as he was heading to church. They were married at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10 am on February 7, 1959. After spending their first few months at Mike Grad's place at the bottom of Red Top Hill they moved to sheep camp, north of Promise in April, and then moved to the home place on No Mouth Creek, east of Promise, in the fall of 1959. To this marriage seven children were born and raised. They were married for 62 years before Janice went to the Lord on Oct. 28, 2021.

Al was a rancher and a friendly face. Athletically gifted he finished 2nd at state in the 800 and did well in Bull Dogging. Hard to keep up with in his early life, he was in good health until these last couple years. He enjoyed cards, especially poker, and was an avid collector of junk. Forever tinkering with old vehicles he seemed capable of fixing most anything, but just well enough for it to break down in an inconvenient location. He was always ready with a laugh and an unusual and frequently stubborn opinion. He was a good dad and his family tried to keep him at home until his health became too much of an issue in the last few months of his life.

Left with the memories of Al are his family, friends and children Janal (Jiggs) Biegler of Timber Lake, Don (Rondi) Aberle of Promise, Roger Aberle of Promise, Barbra (Kerry) Droog of Mobridge, Anita (Bruce) Mathews of Ft. Pierre, Robert (Melissa) Aberle of Rapid City, and Margret (Glenn) Malm of Ft. Pierre. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Lyle (Megan), Kyle (Renee), Karyl (Chad), Mike, Jennifer (William), Ethan, MaKayla (Mike), Dana, Alyssa (Mick), Brady (Amber), Marissa, Bailee, Alekiah, Brandon, Maria, John, Gianna, Lacey (Matt), Kaeley, Carley and Joe, as well as 18 great grandchildren; Elias, Henry, Maren, Cullen, Katelyn, Luke, Josie, Finley, Ashton, Makia, Remi, Cora, Wilson, Kamryn, Karder, Kade, Aliat, Jagger and Jhett.  He is survived by his sisters Vi Buzicky, Marion Gilbert, Ramona Young, Rita (Larry) Roberdeau, Annette (Bob) North, Janice Abel and brothers Andy and Lawrence/Oss (Louise) Aberle.  Brothers and Sister in laws Bill Wientjes, Whitey Keller, Frankie Thompson, Ross Lawrence, Ronnie Long, Betsy Ducheneaux, Mary Jane Anderson, Patty Aberle and Karen Aberle.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Janice, his parents Andrew and Francis Aberle and brothers Dennis, Gene, and Vincent Aberle.
