Mass of Christian Burial for Abraham Roy Rough Surface, 76, of Mobridge will be at 10 AM, CT, Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Catholic Church of Assumption in Kenel. Visitation will start on Tuesday at 1 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the church. Roy passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Ava's House in Sioux Falls. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

Abraham Roy Rough Surface was born on February 5, 1942, in Kenel to Paul and Francis (Howard) Rough Surface. He grew up in Kenel until the 6 th grade then attended Pierre Indian Boarding School in Flandreau until 9 th grade. He then attended grades 10 th through 12 th in Ft. Yates. Following high school he moved to Mobridge where he worked at the dry cleaners. In 1964 Roy entered the US Air Force and was stationed in California during Vietnam War. In 1968 he was honorably discharged to come back home and take care of his parents. In 1979 he moved to Aberdeen and worked for the BIA until 1999 when he retired due to health reason. He moved back to Mobridge in 2001.

Roy was a strong family man. His family was very important. He was a hard worker and had instilled that in his family. He was also an avid sports fan especially the Twins and Vikings.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Nicole Munsinger of Mobridge, son, Abraham Rough Surface Jr. of Portland, OR, grandchildren, Tristen and Nikolas, and special nephew, Donald Hinsley and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by granddaughters, Natasha and Cynthia, sisters, Cynthia, Madeline, and Rita.
